NORWICH – Charlotte Marie Smith-Tophoven, 91, formerly from Edmeston and a long time resident of the State of Florida, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Chenango Memorial Hospital Nursing Facility with her beloved family at her side. She was born November 3, 1923 in McDonough, the daughter of Coral and Mildred (VanSlyke) Phillips. She was first united in marriage to Harold Smith, son of Oran and Eunice Bush and then to Emile Tophoven. She was predeceased by both of her husbands.
While living in this area, Charlotte was employed in the food service department at Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin. She enjoyed crafting, especially oil painting in her spare time.
Charlotte is survived by her children: Lorraine (Richard) Brazee, Dawn (Lyle) Willis, Sandra (John) Atwell, Ronda (Leo) Moore, Melody (Paul) Squires and Neil Smith; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sons: Lydle Smith, Terry Smith, and Monte Smith.
A graveside service and interment at Edmeston Union Cemetery will be held June 28, 2015. Funeral Arrangements are under the guidance of the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston and condolences to the family may be left at the funeral home website, www.hjtfuneralhome.com.
