VERSAILLES, KY – Dorothy Manley MacMackin, 85, of Versailles, Kentucky, died March 7, 2015.
Born in Norwich, NY, Dorothy (“Dot”) was the widow of Grant MacMackin and the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas Francis and Dorothy Wait Manley. A lover of horses and an avid rider since childhood, Dot hunted, rode for pleasure and marshaled on the ice. She was the owner and operator of Hill Farms of Cazenovia, NY and then of Versailles, KY. Dot bred Thoroughbreds for over 40 years, including multiple graded stakes winner, Vigorous Lady, among many other successful race horses. A past member of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, a past member and Secretary of the Limestone Creek Hunt Club, a past Advisor to the Limestone Creek Junior Hunt Club and a past President of the Maryland College for Women’s Riding Team, Dot’s true passion was the horse.
Dorothy was a graduate of Norwich High School and the Maryland College for Women. Survivors include two children, Sara MacMackin and Thomas (Renata) MacMackin; two grandchildren, Stephanie MacMackin and Christopher MacMackin; a brother, Thomas Francis (Donna) Manley, Jr. and many nieces and nephews, including TF (Andrea) Manley and great niece Celina Manley.
A graveside committal service for Dorothy will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, May 29, 2015 in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor of St. Paul’s and St. Bartholomew’s Church, will officiate.
