NORWICH – Ruth J. Brown, 78, of Norwich passed away Thursday evening, May 21, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.
Ruth was born on August 6, 1936 in Morris, N.Y., the daughter of Jay and Lena (Ferguson) Curry. She married Marlin D. “Chub” Brown on June 5, 1954, in Cincinnatus. He passed away September 3, 2002.
Ruth was a stay at home mom and a devoted homemaker. She had many hobbies and interests. Ruth enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, and going to the casino—at which she had a very special knack at winning. She also loved camping especially at Landing Campground in Oneida and spending her winters in Florida.
Ruth is survived by her loving children; Debra Coffyn and her husband Gary of Clayton, N.Y., Laurie Wich and her husband Robert of Norwich, Kim Monroe and her husband Jeff of South Plymouth; her brother James Curry of New Hampshire; her sisters Betty Frink of Norwich, Helen Brown of New Berlin, Kathleen French and her husband Jerry of Norwich; her son- in- law William Ashcraft III of South Plymouth; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Ruth is also survived by her very special companion Robert L. Slater of Norwich.
She was predeceased by her daughter Terry Ashcraft, she passed away October 15, 2001, Ruth was also predeceased by her brother Donald Curry and her sisters Chloe Deforest and Dorothy Curry.
A Graveside Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Ruth J. Brown, will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the South Plymouth Cemetery, South Plymouth. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the South Plymouth Fire Station following the Service.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home of Norwich.
