MITCHELL K. GARY
SHERBURNE – Mitchell K. Gary, 67, of W State Street, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
He was born July 1, 1948 in Brooklyn, the son of Harold and Sarah Polenberg Kornstein. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Brooklyn College. On July 3, 1993, Mitchell married Jan M. Wentworth in South Otselic, where they resided until moving to Sherburne a year ago. Mitchell was a teacher and guidance counselor at the Otselic Valley Central School for 30 years. He was also the webmaster at the DCMO BOCES in Norwich for 15 years. He enjoyed working with computers and creating websites. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mitchell was a member of the Friends of Rogers Environmental Center in Sherburne, and the Otselic Valley Fishing Heritage Association. He was a former Fire Commissioner in South Otselic, and a former member of the School Counselors Association.
Surviving are his wife, Jan; his children, Lisa and Bradley Fostveit of Cazenovia; Michael and Kristen Lagoe, Andrew and Jessica Lagoe, all of Sherburne; his mother-in-law, Winifred Wentworth of South Otselic; a brother-in-law, Barry Komisaruk of Maplewood, NJ; two nephews and their spouses, Dr. Adam and Stacy Elza Komisaruk of Morgantown, WV; Dr. Kevin Komisaruk and Jeffrey Steele of Toronto, Canada; seven grandchildren, Ian, Leigha, Kari, Brooks, Ashley, Dawson and Bailey; grandnieces, Josephine and Alice Komisaruk; and many in-laws and their families. He was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Komisaruk.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, August 3, 2015 at the South Otselic United Methodist Church, followed by interment in the North Pitcher Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Sunday from 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the South Otselic Volunteer Fire Department.
