AKSEL M. PETERSEN, JR.
SHERBURNE – Aksel M. Petersen, Jr., 92 of East State St., passed away on Monday, October 5, 2015 at his home. He was born in Leonardsville, on February 20, 1923 a son of the late Aksel M. and Bessie Bowers Petersen. He was a 1940 graduate of South New Berlin High School. On July 12, 1945 in Norwich he was united in marriage to the former Rosella Stevens. She predeceased him on December 12, 2007.
Aksel was a dairy farmer from 1945 until 1964 when he went to work as a knitter for the Norwich Mills (Champion). In 1975 he went to North Carolina with the company and stayed with them for a total of 27 years until his retirement in 1982. Aksel also drove school bus for Sherburne Central School System for 11 years. He was a member of St. Malachy’s Church.
Surviving are his children, Alette and Bill Davidson of Sherburne; Sue and Bob Marano of Forest, VA; Lloyd Petersen of Clayton, NC; Martha Petersen of Smyrna, TN; Brenda and Greg Roberson of Erin, NY; Greta and Charles Leachman of Bosie, ID; and Jeffrey and Priscilla Kay Petersen of New Berlin; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
11 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Thomsen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 from St. Malachy’s Church, Sherburne. Interment will follow in North Norwich Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
