MARY R. WENTWORTH
Mary R. Wentworth, 66, of South Otselic, NY, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Crouse Memorial Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
Mary was born on January 22, 1949 in Little Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Edward “Bud” and Elizabeth Mason. She married David Wentworth in 1968, and they raised their family in South Otselic. In 1987, Mary was diagnosed with lung cancer. Through the Lord’s grace and doctors’ healing hands, she survived – and thrived. The radiation treatments left her without the use of her right arm or hand, but she adjusted – learning how to write, drive, cook and live left-handed. After recovery, Mary returned to work at Clippinger Law Office, eventually attending night school and taking an expanded role in the firm as a paralegal. Throughout her life she pursued her many passions, which included antique doll collecting, civil war history, and volunteer work with her local church. Mary also enjoyed traveling, with a particular fondness for the sun and tranquility of the Florida Keys. To her family and friends, Mary will be most remembered for her compassion, strength, kindness and spirit of giving.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, David Wentworth; her sons Jason, of Alliance, NE and Jeremy, of Sherburne; daughter Johanna of Sherburne; three grandchildren; a sister Nancy Dennis of Fabius; and brothers Pete of South Otselic, Lyle and Frank, both of Georgetown; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the South Otselic United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with her pastor, Reverend Carl Johnson, officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to The Sunshine Shop at United Methodist Church, South Otselic, NY, 13155.
