RUTH R. WINGATE
Ruth R. Wingate, 93, of Norwich, passed away Monday morning, October 26, 2015, in the Residential Health Care Facility of Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Ruth was born on October 10, 1922 in Peckville, PA the daughter of Jerome and Laura Daugherty Revels. She grew up in Peckville where she attended the local school. During WWII Ruth and her sister moved to Guilford where they would ride the train to work at the Scintilla. On September 4, 1948 in Guilford she married Donald E. Wingate, a Aeronautical Engineer with GLA and Simmonds Precision, who passed away August 23, 1995. Ruth worked for a brief period of time for the National Bank & Trust Co. and Montgomery Ward. She then gained employment with Chenango Memorial Hospital working first as a Nurses Aide then as Ward Secretary for over 20 years from which she retired.
Ruth loved working with people especially children and was always a giving individual. She was an avid reader and was a great supporter of the Guernsey Memorial Library where she spent much time.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Margaret (Greta) Wingate and companion Lee Meltzer of Beacon, NY and Judith Wingate-Wade and husband David of Guilford, her beloved grandchildren Leah Giulian and husband Brian of Endicott, Norah Breindel and husband Eric of Brewerton, her great grandchildren Andrew, Cole and Emerie Giulian and Eli and Avery Breindel. Also surviving are several nieces and nephew.
Besides her husband Donald, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Mildred Cole.
A memorial service for Ruth will be held on Friday, November 6, at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Barbara Ibarra will officiate. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11-1pm.
