NORWICH – Alice M. Peters, 82, of Norwich, passed away Sunday evening, November 8, 2015, at the Norwich Rehabilitation Center in Norwich.
Alice was born on January 26, 1933 in Norwich the daughter of Edward and Helen (Hoyt) Stringham. She attended school in Greene and continued her education by attending beautician school in Binghamton where she earned her beautician’s license. In her early working career, Alice worked for the Cresent Corsett Factory and the Raymond Corp. In 1975 Alice opened Alices Beauty Salon in Oxford and then came to Norwich where she continued her business for the next 25-30 years.
Alice was a longtime and very active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich. She was a member of the Dorcas Missionary Circle of Calvary and also a member of the FaHoLo (FaithHope&Love) group also of Calvary. She was also a part of the weekly Bible study group. In her spare time she enjoyed working on puzzles, doing ceramics and tending to her flowers.
Alice was a pleasure to her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
On December 12, 1987 in Oxford she married Charles Peters who survives. Besides her husband Charles, Alice is survived by her daughters Gail Place and husband Michael of Endwell, Dianne O’Reilly of Guilford, Nancy Wells and husband Daniel (Doc) of Norwich and her special foster daughter Marie Petry of Apple Valley, CA, her sister Phyllis Hatton of Greene, her 11 grandchildren Jessica Place and companion Maurie Geake, Kevin Place and companion Suzy Neil, April Green and husband Kevin, Dr. Jennifer Anderson and husband Dr. James Anderson, Joshua Wells and companion Sarah Baker, Aaron Wells and wife Michele, Shevonne Iverson and husband Justin, Shawn Brown and wife Teresa, Michael Hatton and wife Allison, Desiree Hatton and Dawnette Hatton. Also surviving are 17 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Alice was predeceased by her son Michael Hatton, Sr. her son-in-law Timothy O’Reilly, sister Doris Lee and brother Albert Stringham.
A funeral service for Alice will be held on Saturday, November 14, at 10 a.m. from the Calvary Baptist Church of Norwich. The Rev. Brian Conover, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Warn-Ten Broeck Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
