NORWICH – Lyle Edward Willis, 71 yrs. old of Norwich, NY passed away on November 13, 2015 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Lyle was born on September 3, 1944 in Sydney, NY; the son of Austin & Ruby (Dain) Willis.
His childhood was spent in the Masonville and New Berlin, NY areas. He attended New Berlin Central School. On September 6, 1963 he married Dawn Smith who survives him.
Lyle was the owner and operator of Lyle’s Automatic Transmission Service in Norwich, NY for 35 years which is now operated by his son, Brian, who has continued the family business. He enjoyed rebuilding tractors and was a member of the Tired Iron of Butternut Valley Tractor Club. Lyle loved shooting trap & skeet at the Smyrna Rod & Gun Club and the Iroquois Gun Club of Norwich, where he was a member. He loved riding his Harley Motorcycle with his wife Dawn. Lyle loved spending time in the outdoors with his grandchildren and children fishing, hunting, exploring, and playing ball or games. He also enjoyed trips to the Adirondacks with his family. He was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan.
He is survived by his children; Brian Scott Willis and Lisa of Guilford, NY, Kevin Willis and Cindy of Genoa, IL and Lyle Willis Jr. and Gail of Norwich, NY, 5 grandsons; Brandon, Dylan, Joshua, Lleyton Willis and Bryant White. He is also survived by his siblings; Hazel Craig, Lora (& Harold) Smith, Larry (& Diane) Willis, Harriet Strouse, Ruth Delamarter, Mary Coy, David (& Jan) Willis, Daniel (& Sandy) Willis and John (& Ronnie) Willis.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the Holmesville Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Maxson officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY.
The interment will be in the White Store Cemetery, White Store, NY.
Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Chenango County or American Cancer Society.
