CAROL B. POPE
EARLVILLE – Mrs. Carol B. Pope, 87 years, of Conley Rd., passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at her home.
She was born December 6, 1927 in Lisle, NY, the daughter of Walter A. and Mary C., Jones Pierce. She was a 1945 graduate of Greene Central School, and received her LPN Degree from Delhi Technical Institute in 1946. On October 26, 1946, Carol married Charles A. Pope in Greene, NY. He predeceased her on September 29, 1999. She had resided in Sherburne, NY for 22 years prior to moving to Earlville in 1999. Carol had worked for Dr. Aronson for 17 years, Chenango Memorial Hospital, and the Medical Arts Center, all of Norwich, NY retiring in 1995.
Mrs. Pope was a member of the First Baptist Church of Earlville, and was a former member of the Board of Christian Education. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Norwich, and an Assistant Girl Scout leader in Sherburne. She was also the Past President of the Sherburne Home Extension. Her favorite past-times included ceramics, gardening, quilting and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia L. and Edward Layton of Utica; Diana M. and Thomas Russell of Earlville; a son, Lawrence C. Pope of VA; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Hairfield of Richmond, VA, Heather Pope and Michael Sweeney, of MD, Brian Layton of Utica, Jessica Stumpf and Joshua Russell of Earlville, Angela Westcott of Sherburne and Travis DePew, of Defiance, MO, sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Donald Brown of Norwich; a sister-in-law, Fern Pierce of Rising Sun, MD; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a daughter, Catherine E. Pope DePew; two sisters, Esther Nordberg and Daisy Brown; two brothers, Kenneth and Roger Pierce; and two grandchildren, Dustin A. DePew and Sean D. Layton.
Memorial Services will be held at 11am Monday, November 30, 2015 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne NY.
Burial will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, NY.
There will be no calling hours.
