JEAN BUSHNELL
Jean C. Bushnell, 89, of South New Berlin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born September 16, 1926, in South New Berlin, Jean was the daughter of Charles R. and Bertha (Camp) Bushnell. She was a graduate of the South New Berlin High School with the Class of 1948. After high school, Jean worked for a short time at Upstate Baptist Home in Oneonta. Then she worked for 30 years at Chenango Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1988.
Jean was an active volunteer at Valley View Nursing Home, Chenango Valley Home, and Sunrise Adult Center through the Chenango County Office of the Aging. She often played piano for residents at those homes, was involved in a group of singers during “Chenango Valley Hour,” and participated in Catholic Charities Bingo at Valley View.
Jean was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin and was a 51-year member of the church’s choir. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich.
Other activities in which Jean was active included the Women’s Guild, the former Monday Evening Musical Club, and the former Fortnightly Study Club, all in South New Berlin.
Jean is survived by several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Homer Bushnell.
Funeral services for Jean will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, where Rev. David Spiegel, pastor, First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow at Butternuts Cemetery in Gilbertsville, NY.
