CARLA SCHENKER
Carla Sue (Hunt) Schenker, 71, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at her home in Burlington, NC.
Born on May 25, 1944, in Norwich, NY, Carla was the daughter of the late Arthur and Francis (Bauer) Hunt. Frances was a mill worker and Arthur Hunt was a carpenter. Dave Bauer, who worked for Victory Markets in Norwich, NY, was Carla’s beloved stepfather since she was five years old. Frances and Dave were lifelong Norwich residents.
Carla was the wife of 45 years to Carl Schenker with whom she spent the most beautiful years of her life. She lived with Carl and her family in Nashua, NH, Burke, VA, San Diego, CA, Freedom, NH, and Burlington, NC. While she lived in Burke, VA, Carla started a Ladies Club and Welcome Wagon, which remains in operation. She was also a member of the international Lilac Society. Carla's passion in life was her family, children, and grandchild. She also had a passion for genealogy and learned a great deal about her ancestry that she passed on to her family. Carla was an avid bridge player and was a lovely flower arranger and decorator. She was also well known for her baking and cooking.
Carla is survived by her husband, Carl; daughter, Julie Dreelin, and her husband, Eric, of Kitty Hawk, NC; son, David Schenker, also of Kitty Hawk; and grandson Fletcher Dreelin, who was the light of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Carole Silva.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Carla at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at St. Bartholomew’s Church, in Norwich, NY, with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Carla may be made to Hospice Foundation of Greater Greensboro 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
