NETTIE R. JEFFREY
SMYRNA – Nettie R. Collins Jeffrey, 100, of Smyrna, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton.
She was born September 3, 1915 on Smyrna Hill to Clarence and Flora Taylor Collins and received her education in local schools. On April 13, 1933, she married Homer Jeffrey who predeceased her in August 1979. Along with being a homemaker and raising her five children and assisting on the farm, Nettie had worked at Norwich Mills and Champion for 17 years. She had also worked briefly for TACO in Sherburne, and at the Pratt-Newton Home in Sherburne. She was a Smyrna resident for most of her life, having also lived in the Oxford and Plymouth areas for a short time. She was active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from 1964 to 1982. For over 50+ years, she was a Hula Lady in the Firemen’s Parade at the county fair.
Surviving are a daughter, Marjorie Bates of Sherburne; sons: Roger Jeffrey of Oxford; Lee Jeffrey of Orangeburg, SC; and Danny Jeffrey of McDonough; 22 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son Walter, in 1948; brothers, Roy, Myron and Levi Collins, a sister, Meda Lobdell; great-grandchildren, Roger Jeffrey, Jr. and Debbie Deming.
Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, January 11, 2016 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4-7pm.
