ROSEMARY INGRAHAM
Rosemary (Hayes) Ingraham, 103, passed away at the Chenango Memorial Nursing Home, Norwich on January 8, 2016. S
he was born in North Colesville, on November 20, 1912, two years prior to World War I, the youngest of six children of Jerry and Jennie Hayes. She and her four sisters and one brother worked there on the family farm. She attended the local one room school house and had her oldest sister, Helen, as her teacher. When she was a young teenager, her mother passed away, followed a few years later by her father’s passing. She moved to Coventryville and then on to Binghamton to attend Beauty School and became a licensed Beautician. She would later open her own shop in Greene.
On June 9, 1935 she married Johnie B. Ingraham and in 1940, had their first child, Joan (Ingraham) McDonald, who currently resides in Easley, S.C.., followed by a son, Lee B. Ingraham in 1941, who lives in Norwich, and later by another son, Vern W. Ingraham in 1948, who with his wife, Judith, lives in Port Crane. In 1974, Rosemary “semi-retired” as a beautician after 62 years in the profession. Her husband, Johnie predeceased her on December 12, 1931.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, Keith McDonald of Pickens, S.C.; Audrey (McDonald) Clark of Douglas, MA; Kurt McDonald of Easley, S.C.; Rachael (Ingraham) Burks, Washington, VA.; Juliana (Ingraham) Young of Churchton, MD; Kristen Ingraham, New York City; Dean Ingraham – Rush, N.Y.; and Darcy (Ingraham) Becker of Charlottesville, VA.; along with a number of great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Rosemary loved to travel to visit relatives and friends and enjoyed reading, a passion she shared with her good neighbor, Lillian Funnell. She also loved attending Town Team baseball games. She will always be remembered for the cookies in her cookie jar and her wonderful disposition and friendly manner towards everyone.
A special thanks to Dr. Yang, Dr. Simcoe, and all the nursing staff at the Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, N.Y. who took such good care of Rosemary over the last seven years.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10AM at Root Funeral Home. Friends of the family may call from 4PM to 7PM on Friday January 15th at Root Funeral Home 23 North Chenango Street Greene, New York 13778.
