Matthew Nelson, 56, Highlands Ranch, CO passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. Matt was born June 14, 1959 in Norwich, NY to Edward S. and Catherine B. Nelson. After graduating from Norwich High School in 1977, Matt attended Colgate University and moved to Denver in 1982. He graduated from Denver’s Metropolitan State University in 1987 and in 1990, received his J.D. from the University of Denver, School of Law. Matt practiced law in Denver for 25 years, most recently with the Semler & Associates. Matt is survived by his wife, Michel (Singer Nelson), children Hildur Taylor, (husband, James) Edward (wife, Allie), stepchildren, Melissa Glawe and Anthony Glawe and grandchildren, Jimmy and Ruby Taylor. He was predeceased by his father, Edward and is survived by his mother, Catherine of Norwich, NY, sister Berry Ravitz (husband, John) of Pelham Manor, NY and brother Andrew (wife, Shelley) of Atlanta, GA. Matt is also survived by numerous sisters and brothers-in-law and dozens of nieces and nephews. Matt loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid reader and a master of trivia, particularly relating to history, sports and religion. Matt continuously entertained family and friends with stories and humor, even while experiencing pain and suffering from cancer, never complaining and always maintaining a positive and hopeful attitude. Matt’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 with a wake at Horan & McConaty funeral home in Centennial, CO, beginning at 4:00 P.M. and a Rosary and Prayer Service from 7:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 11, 2016, with visitation one hour prior, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Littleton, CO.
