SHERBURNE – Glen H. Straight, 83, of Classic St., passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
He was born May 23, 1932 in Earlville, a son of Howard and Mildred A. Close Straight and received his education in local schools. Glen was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. His first wife, Iona Straight predeceased him. On December 17, 1989, he married Barbara N. Hollenbeck in Georgetown. Glen was a cook at the Cincinnatus Nursing Home for several years, and then owned and operated a restaurant in South Otselic. Following that, he worked in the logging and pulp industry for Carl Gilbert and then for the Continental Cordage Corp. Most recently, he worked in the maintenance department at Colgate University in Hamilton until retiring.
Glen was a member of the Georgetown United Methodist Church. He loved playing baseball, riding around town on his Hover Round, and buying lottery tickets.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara; his children, Tina Gallup of FL; Brad and Cathy Straight of Sheds; Tarey Washo of Canastota; daughter-in-law, Tracy Straight of North Pitcher; step-children, Patsy Hagenboo of Norwich; Melanie (Palmer) and Charles Seifer of Sherburne; Paula Palmer (Donnie Briggs) of Poolville; Scott Palmer (April Lopez) of Brookfield; Howard Palmer (Kelly Lockwood) of Norwich; and Candi Brower of Sherburne; step-daughter-in-law, Lori Robinson of Scriba; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Deborah Straight of Georgetown; a sister, Frances Dick of Georgetown; many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two sons, Glen, Jr. and Timothy Straight; a daughter, Kathleen Straight; a step-daughter, Linda Winters; a step-son, David Robinson; two sisters, Cora Rivers and Erma Jean Kitchell.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at Noon on Friday, February 19, 2016 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville, NY.
Spring interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery, South Otselic.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 11am until Noon prior to the service.
