NORWICH – Bruce Wayne Braswell, 60, a resident of Norwich since 2000, died on February 20, 2016 at the Basset Medical Center. He previously lived in Poughkeepsie.
Bruce was born in Amarillo, TX on June 5, 1955. He was a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, the Brooklyn Law School, and the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO.
Bruce was the Pastor of the Springvale Open Door Church in Norwich. An advocate of education, he was a part time substitute teacher and a counselor. He was a founding member of the Westchester Chapter of Little People of America, past secretary of the Peekskill and Poughkeepsie Rotary Clubs, and a member of the NYS Bar Association.
On June 18, 1988 at the Fishkill Church of the Nazarene, Bruce married Maureen Conklin Braswell who survives him. He is also survived by his sons, Paul Leonard Braswell, who is serving in the Army Reserves, and Peter Wayne Braswell, who is currently studying at his alma mater, Eastern Nazarene College; his mother, Iva Pearl (Mathes) Lichtenberg and her husband Daniel; and his siblings and their spouses, Carolyn and Ray Greene, Gary and Kathy Braswell, and Sandra and Rob Carlson. He was predeceased by his father, Harvey Leonard Braswell.
Bruce, who was affectionately called “Batman,” will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. Burial will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Amawalk Hill Cemetery in Yorktown Heights. A reception will then take place from 1-3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at the Fishkill Church of the Nazarene, 953 Main Street, Fishkill followed by a service at 3 p.m. officiated by Carolyn Greene. On Sunday at 11:30 a.m., a memorial service will take place at Springvale Open Door Church, 361 CR 34, Norwich, officiated by Carolyn Greene.
