George F. Egan, 73, of Norwich, passed away Thursday evening, February 25, 2016, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home of Norwich. George was born on May 16, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ the son of George F. and Alice (Hayes) Egan. He was educated in the New Jersey schools and following his education entered the United States Army serving his country from July of 1961 until his honorable discharge in July of 1963. While living in New Jersey, George worked as a truck driver as well as a plant manager for Felician University in Lodi, NJ and Upsala College in East Orange, NJ.
In 2005 George and his wife Linda moved to Norwich where he worked for the AA Cab Co. in Norwich for a period of 9 years. George was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of Norwich Lodge B.P.O.E.#1222 where he also held several offices over the years. He was also a member of American Legion Post #189 and VFW Post #2782.
On June 25, 1988 he married Linda G. Soss who survives. Besides his wife Linda of Norwich, George is survived by his children Tracy Egan, George F. Egan, Scott Egan and step-daughter Corrine Kinder of Bricktown, NJ. Also surviving are his siblings Evelyn Egan of Orlando, FL, Michael Egan and wife Debbie of NC, Patrick Porgans and wife Susan of CA, Robert Egan and wife Betty of NJ and his aunt & uncle with whom he was very close Evelyn and Robert Thomas of FL.
A funeral service for George will be held on Friday evening at 7 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove will officiate. This will be followed by a memorial service by members of Norwich Lodge B.P.O.E. #1222. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7 p.m.
