Carl R. Osterhout Jr., 70, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, after long illness at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, NY. Carl was born in Washington D.C. on June 4, 1945, and was the son of the late Carl Sr. and Zita Armstrong Osterhout. He was a graduate of the Bainbridge-Guilford High School and studied music in college.
Carl retired from Montgomery Wards when they went out of business. Upon retirement he started a lucrative business buying and selling antiques on eBay and running a dj and karaoke business.
Carl was a gifted musician and performed all over the country in his younger years, most notably singing in Carnegie Hall. He was also an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, target and skeet shooting. He was a coin collecting enthusiast. In his later years he loved passing his love for the outdoors and coin collecting to his grandson, Jack. Carl was known for his sense of humor and love of food. Even in his final days he was sharing his stash of candy bars with the nurses, had numerous cheese balls and was sending us out to pick up Brooks barbeque for dinner.
Carl was predeceased by his wife, Karen Provost Osterhout. He was the beloved father of Christopher (Katrina) and Lindsey Osterhout; and grandfather of Jack Osterhout, all of Mechanicville, NY. Carl is also survived by his sisters, Debbie K. Bennett of Sugar Hill, GA; and Vicky (Orrin) Parkes of Endicott, NY, brothers-in-law Thomas (Kathryn) Powers of Clifton Park, NY and William (Mary Ann) Provost of Queensbury, NY; longtime partner and companion David Reid of Bainbridge, NY, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday March 11, 2016 at 1pm at St. Johns the Evangelist Church at 32 South Main Street, Bainbridge, NY 13733. A private burial is being planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Catskill Area Hospice at 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13733.
