Alice G. “Betty” Stevens, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2016. Betty was born in Norwich on August 2, 1923, the daughter of Grover and Edna Currie. She married Donald R. Stevens on May 2, 1942 who predeceased her on August 23, 2003. She was employed for many years at Norwich Knitting Mill and Norwich Eaton Pharmacy until her retirement. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, Pink Door, Chenango Memorial Hospital and Voter Registration. She enjoyed her time at Golden Age Apartments playing bingo and cooking. Betty is survived by her four children and their spouses, Beverly J. Maynard (Walter); Kenneth G. Stevens (Judy); Charles R. Stevens (Sylvia); and Terri Ann Woodard (Terry); nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; her brother, Fred Currie; and her sisters, Eleanor Chaplin, and Jeanette F. Diefenbacher. One brother and three sisters have predeceased her. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Golden Age Senior Center, 33 Mitchell St. Norwich on Saturday April 16, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to American Red Cross 27 W. Main St. Norwich, NY 13815 or to American Heart Association at https://donatenow.heart.org/.
