Jennie “Jinx” Schaffer, 85, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the NYS Veteran’s Home in Oxford, NY.
Born in Johnson City, in May 1930, Jennie was the daughter of Joseph and Suzanna Pohlod. On February 16, 1952, Jennie married Richard J. Schaffer Sr., in Binghamton who passed away in February 2009. The Schaffers moved in 1980 to Norwich, where they enjoyed their family. Known by her family as a shopaholic, she loved Sears and Flea Markets. She took pride in her flowers, enjoyed crafts, keeping a clean house and loved polka dancing with her husband Richard.
Jennie is survived by her children and their spouses, Sharon and Henry Hett, Wilmington, N.C., and Richard J. and Diana Schaffer, Norwich; granddaughter, Shana Hett and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Mary Musho, Anna Klenotich, Betty Sissenstein and niece, Barbara Barlow.
Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Saturday at 2pm with burial in Slovak Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1pm until the time of service.
