Ruth Fleener, 89, formerly of South New Berlin, New York, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth was born in Berks County, PA on January 5, 1927, daughter of Gertrude Willman. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; son, Harry Jr.; mother, Gertrude; and sister, Mary Nester.
For the past year, Ruth has resided at Chestnut Knoll, a personal care home in Boyertown, PA, near her sisters and their families. It was in this area where Ruth spent her childhood.
Ruth enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, sewing, photographing sunsets, and listening to and singing familiar hymns. She also had a real fondness for anything chocolate.
Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich for many years, where her special talent was caring for the little ones in the nursery. There was always a soft place in her heart for babies and young children.
Ruth is survived by daughters, Linda Seiler (George) of South New Berlin, NY, and Diane Stewart (Don)of Shawnee, KS. Grandchildren, Rik Seiler of Buskirk, NY; Nicole Swiger (Jimmy) of Greenville, SC; Brett Seiler of Cambridge, NY; Trevor Stewart (Katie) of Shawnee, KS; Jessica Ashby (Clayton) of Overland Park, KS. Great Grandchildren Charlotte Swiger, William Swiger, Margaret Swiger of Greenville, SC; Cooper Stewart, Logan Stewart of Shawnee, KS; Harper Ashby of Overland Park, KS. Her surviving sisters are Grace Eshbach, Lucy Romig (Linny), June Bieber; all of Pennsylvania, and also Joanne Day (Bill) of Buffalo, WY. She has one brother, Melvin Stephens (Ruby) who lives in Florida.
Calling hours will be held at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in Norwich on Thursday, July 7th from 5-7pm. A private family graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience on Friday from the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Norwich. All are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Service for Ruth at the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin on Friday at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of South New Berlin.
