Paul A. Squires
Paul A. Squires, 76, of South New Berlin, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Norwich Rehabilitation and Nursing Center surrounded by his family.
Born April 26, 1940, Paul was the son of Ernest and Mary Squires of Smithville Flats and East Pharsalia. He attended Oxford Academy and worked as a truck driver most of his working life. An accident in 1992 left him unable to continue as a tractor trailer driver, so he and his wife retired to Texas where they lived for nine years. Paul and his wife returned to the Norwich area in 2005 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Paul was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his sons, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his wife of 47 years -- the love of his life -- Mary Ann (Fryover) Squires; sons Paul Squires Jr. and his wife, Melody, of VA, and Steven Squires and his wife, Jodi Stroosnyder Squires, of New Woodstock NY; daughters Julia Squires and Jon Buck of Smyrna, and Donna Dravland and her husband, James, of Rossville, GA. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Aime Squires, of Smyrna, Jon Paul Squires and his wife, Autumn, of Norwich, Mathieu Newell and Courtney Ericksen, of Norwich, Andrew L. Smith and his wife, Lindsay, of Hubert, NC, Zachary Squires, Shawn Wood, each of New Woodstock, NY, Morgan Wood Lydell and her husband, Will, of PA, Jennifer Squires Meyers and her husband, Jeff, of Norwich, Jessica Barker Rose, of VA, and Lisa Barker Parry, of VA; great-grandchildren Gracie Squires, Liam Smith, and Madison Myers. Paul was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his fourth great-grandchild, due in October. Also surviving are brothers Ernest Squires and his wife, Penny, of TX, and Vincent Squires and his wife, Nellie, of FL. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by brother William Squires, step-son John Diamond, and step-daughter Gloria Jean ("Candi") Diamond.
A memorial service for Paul will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016, where Rev. David Spiegel, pastor, First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
