Helen V. Dewey, 84, of Norwich passed away early Saturday morning, July 9, 2016, at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Norwich.
Helen was born on January 7, 1932 in the Bronx the daughter of William & Nora Cast. She attended school in the Bronx and at the age of 16 moved to Chenango County with her family. A hard worker all of her life Helen was employed for 38 years in the housekeeping dept. of Chenango Memorial Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed going around the countryside looking for garage sales, or as she would call it” garage hopping”, taking rides with her grand kids, attending music in the park, going for ice cream and just enjoying her family in general.
On August 2, 1952 in Oxford she married Raymond Dewey. Besides her husband Ray of Norwich, Helen is survived by her children Jack Dewey and companion Cindy Reihl of No. Norwich, Gary Dewey and wife Donna of Unadilla and James Dewey and companion Judy Crandall of Oxford, her brothers James & Thomas Cast both of CA along with 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Featherstone and brothers John & William.
A funeral service for Helen will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm.
