Margaret E. Crandall, 81, of Oxford passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2106, at the Wilson Hospital in Johnson City.
Margaret was born on January 24, 1935 in Fall River, Mass. The daughter of Ralph & Edith Williamson Bodington. She grew up in Little Compton where she attended the local schools. Margaret met her husband, Leon, while he was serving his country in the United States Navy and they were married on March 11, 1955. Leon passed away on January 4 of this year. They moved to the South Otselic area in 1969 and for the past 10 years made their home in the McDonough – Oxford area.
Margaret was without question a very compassionate, loving, caring person who raised her family with the highest of standards. She was all about family and her door was always open for the less fortunate where they could have a warm meal and enjoy some good conversation. Her care and concern for others inspired her to become a home health aide. A hard worker all of her life, she could work circles around anyone. She had a “pilot light” that would ignite in the best of times or in turbulence. She loved her children deeply, they were her life. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, music, bird watching, gardening, flowers, sewing, knitting and shopping.
Margaret is survived by her children, Beth Fallon and husband Thomas of Endicott, Robert Crandall and wife Karen of Georgetown, David Crandall of Oxford, Molly Rounds and husband Ben of Norwich, Amy Crandall of Unadilla, Martha Martyn and husband James of Mich., Megan Mitchell and husband Wade of McGraw. Also surviving are her sisters Diane Bodington of Norton, Mass., Gail Scott and husband Raymond of Falmmouth. Mass., her brother Ralph Bodington and wife Susan of Little Compton along with 24 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Leon R. Crandall Sr, she was predeceased by her son Leon Crandall Jr.
A funeral service for Margaret will be held on Wednesday, July 20, at noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Jonathan Elsensohn, a family member, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11-12.
