UNADILLA – Betty Faye Niles, 71, of Unadilla, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 in her home surrounded by her family. Faye was born on June 14, 1945 in Birmingham, AL, daughter of Newton and Myrtle Bliss.
Faye received her Masters Degree in education from Oneonta and went on to teach at Afton Central School and then as God called, she found her permanent calling as a teacher at Holmesville Christian Academy where she spent many years.
On July 24, 1965 , she was married to Roland George Niles. They celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage together.
Faye loved her family and was extremely close with her mother Myrtle and sister Sally. She enjoyed family holidays and social gatherings with all the members of the Niles family. She loved being a mother, an aunt, and a proud grandmother.
Faye was a longtime member of Berean Bible Church in Greene, NY where she was a Sunday school teacher, a part of the church choir, and would sing and play the guitar for the congregation. Faye developed life long friendships with many families at Berean and with many of the children who would grow and have families of their own. Faye later became a member of Afton Baptist Church where she also developed wonderful friendships.
Faye loved the Lord and loved teaching children both academically and spiritually. She loved that her work at Holmesville Christian academy allowed her to do both. She was a gifted teacher. She would really get to know a child, and she would recognize differences in learning styles and teach accordingly. She is loved by many of her students.
Faye believed in Jesus Christ and loved Him so much. She believed in the power of prayer and believed in God's eternal love for her. Faye is survived by her mother Myrtle Bliss; her children: daughter Heather and Donald Barber, her son Brian and Jayme Niles; 3 grandchildren: Derek Powell and Taylor and Nikolas Niles; her sister: Sally and Frank VanWie; and nieces Christine and Brandon Brewster, Nancy and John Stepneski.
Faye was predeceased by her father Newton Bliss and her husband Roland Niles
A celebration of Faye’s life will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Afton Baptist Church at 1:00 PM.
Burial will be in West Bainbridge Cemetery.
