John T. Giaquinto


John T. Giaquinto passed away August 17th, 2016 at the Southeast Volusia Hospice Center in Edgewater, Florida with his loving wife Hilda at his side. John was born February 19th, 1928 in Sherburne, NY to the late John V. Giaquinto and Frances V. (Favaloro) Giaquinto. John graduated from Sherburne Central School in 1945, and served in the army from September 22nd, 1950 through September, 1952 spending most of that time deployed to the Korean Peninsula during the Korean Conflict. He made his home in Sherburne after his discharge, where he was a long time employee of the SHerburne Postal Department and then a cashier at Vernon Downs Race track. John was an active member of the Sherburne community. He was a member of the Sherburne Fire Department, the American Legion of Sherburne, and the Knights of Columbus at Saint Malachy’s Church. John also marched in the well known Sentinels Drill Team and was an avid fan of Drum and Bugle Corp. John and Hilda lived in Sherburne and on Craine Lake for many years. They also lived in the village of Earlville, spending many winters in Edgewater, Florida before finally making their full time home in Florida in 2014.
John is survived by his wife, Hilda Irwin Giaquinto; stepson Jeffrey Scott Burdick and his wife Toni; step grandchildren Jordan Burdick and his wife Cassie, Desiree Davis and Troy Liebi, and Ryan Burdick; great grandchildren Kol, Kristian, Kollin, Kaleigh, and Parker. John is also survived by his sister Catherine (Giaquinto) Hoefler; nephew John, his wife Laurie (Labor) Hoefler and nephew John; nephew James Hoefler and nieces Jill and Jennifer Hoefler; niece Cathleen Hoefler, nephew and niece Joseph and Anne, and nephew Aaron; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Malachy’s Food Pantry or the Southeast Volusia Hospice Care Center at the following address: Halifax Health-Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL, 32129. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Malachy’s Church on August 30th, 2016 at 10:30, followed by a luncheon in the church basement.
