Patricia Mcavoy


Patricia McAvoy, age 88, of Norwich passed away peacefully on August 26, 2016, at Chenango Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
After graduating high school in Phoenix, New York, she received training as a registered nurse as a proud member of the Cadet Nurse Corps at the end of World War II. Patricia was married and lived in Florida before moving back to New York with her four children in the early 1960’s. She worked as a waitress at the Bluebird Restaurant in Norwich for several years, making many life-long friends.
Patricia is survived by her children Deborah Liparulo Durler, Judie Liparulo (John) Salzano, and Steven Liparulo, and grandchildren Courtney (Craig) Starr, Brianne (Baron Kim) Baldwin, Matthew (Julie) Benson, Stephanie Benson, Daniel Dodge, Angela Camp, and Sophia Salzano. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sisters Jane Curtis and Irene Chambers, long-time friend and neighbor Emily Grodecki, neighbor and honorary daughter Kathy Chevalier, and very loyal friends Patty Moore and Faith Brown. Patricia was predeceased by her mother Verla Downing, her father George Chambers, her sisters Betty Taranto and Ione Curtis, brother Clinton Button, and her daughter Patricia Liparulo Benson.
Patricia's family was most important to her, and she was very proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved to listen to stories of her youth and her nursing career. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich and her faith in God carried her through many hard times.
A Memorial Service for Patricia will be held on Wednesday, August 31, at 11 am from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. The Rev. David Hanselman will officiate. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
