SMITHVVILE FLATS – Albert O. “Bud” Smith, 77, of Smithville Flats, passed away on Sept. 30, 2009 at the NYS Veterans’ Home, Oxford.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1932 in East McDonough a son of Fred and Clara Smith. On June 24, 1974 he married Patricia Linger, who survives.
Besides his wife, Pat; he is survived by his children, James and Janice Smith of Oxford, Tony and Mary Smith of Greensboro, N.C., Bonnie and Charles Collins of McDonough, Robert Preston of Belleville, Fla. and Carl Preston of Marathon. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his former wife, Kitty Brewer and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his great granddaughter, Savannah Thomsen and 13 brothers and sisters.
Bud was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of George Nightengale Post, American Legion over 50 years and was a past Commander. He was a life member of the McDonough Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief, Commissioner and in the Fire Police over 50 years. He enjoyed pony pulling and served as a judge for many pulls.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday with members of Fort Hill Post, American Legion providing military honors.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford.
