Terry F. Tewksbury
Terry F. Tewksbury, 72, of McEneny Road, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Wilson Memorial Hospital just days after undergoing bypass surgery.
Born on April 16, 1944, in Wolfboro, NH, Terry was the son of Fred and Pearl (Nichols) Tewksbury. From a very young age, Terry was raised by his foster parents, Samuel and Marjorie Niblett. Marjorie Niblett survives.
After graduating high school, Terry completed some college, but soon after relocated to Oxford. He worked for the NY State Highway Department's Oxford station for 28 years before retiring as a supervisor. Terry also served for several years as a volunteer firefighter for the Oxford Fire Department. After retiring, Terry worked for 17 more years as a part-time rural carrier and truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service.
Terry was a man of many skills, which came in handy while working on his small farm. He also raised cows. Terry always had at least one dog, and was very fond of them all. Due to his years in NH, he was a proud fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics teams. As a former high school basketball athlete, Terry enjoyed watching, playing, and coaching sports.
Terry was engaged to be married to Betty DeVito. They planned to be married within the next year. He was also a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his fiancée and foster mother, Terry is survived by his four children, David Tewksbury and his wife, Rhonda, of Bainbridge, Arthur Tewksbury and his wife, Elise, of Oxford, Lynelle Davis and her husband, Verne, of Norwich, and Darrin Tewksbury and his wife, Jalyn, of Apalachin; 12 grandchildren, Rachael, Brittany, Chelsea, Ashley, Kassondra, Brandon, Grayson, Bella-Lynn, Amanda, Heather, Shane, and Justin; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his brother, Earle Tewksbury.
Funeral services for Terry will be held at the Behe Funeral Home 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016, where the Rev. Josh Raphmell will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery.
