NEW BERLIN – Dorothy Mae Hill, 95 years old, of New Berlin, passed away Oct. 3, 2009 at the Chenango Memorial Nursing Home, Norwich.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1914 in Utica, the daughter of William E. Royce & Anna M Matteson Royce. She married Elmer Cole on Jan 23, 1932; he died in 1941. She then married Lewis Hill in April 26, 1942. He died in February of 2002.
Dorothy spent her childhood in the New Berlin area and attended New Berlin & Morris Central Schools. She worked at Sintilla in Sidney and the Chase Hospital in New Berlin before becoming a Home Health Caretaker in New Berlin for many years. She belonged to the Holmesville Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene and Gloria Cole, Royce and Ruth Hill both of Edmeston; and a step-son, Anthony Hill of Durand, Mich. She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Marie Hardy and two grandchildren, Jane Hardy and Thomas Hill. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ida Dunham and her brother Frank Royce.
The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin. Pastor Romeyn Kipp of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Andrew’s Cemetery in New Berlin.
Calling hours will take place at the Dakin Funeral Home one hour before the service.
