James C. Metz, 68, a longtime resident of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born February 3, 1948, in Easton, PA, Jim was the son of Carl and Dorothy Metz. After graduating high school, he attended Penn State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree, having double-majored in business and mathematics. After college, Jim pursued a career in teaching. He taught for 34 years in the Norwich High School, mostly as a business course instructor, but also as a mathematics instructor earlier in his career. Jim was also a representative of the local teacher’s union.
Outside of teaching, Jim became an expert and professional photographer. After retiring from teaching, he opened the James Metz Photos studio on West Main Street, and continued his photography work up to the time of his death. Jim was also an active member of the Professional Photographers Association of New York.
Jim also enjoyed volunteering at the Norwich Family YMCA and other local, non-profit organizations and events.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Kristin, and grandsons, Benjamin and Joshua. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Metz.
Friends and family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the Norwich emergency squad and hospital personnel who cared for Jim in his final hours.
There will be no funeral services or calling hours for Jim. Burial will take place at Northampton Memorial Shrine in Easton, PA, at the convenience of the family.
