SMYRNA – Dixie L. Morse, 77 of State Highway 80, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care Facility in Clinton.
She was born August 25, 1939 in the Town of Lebanon, NJ, a daughter of Donald H., Sr. and Frances M. Eick Alpaugh and was a graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School. She had worked as a telephone operator after graduation. On May 27, 1961, Dixie married Nolan A. Morse in Cokesbury, NJ. They were dairy farmers in New Jersey and moved to Smyrna to start a farm there. Dixie also worked in Sherburne at Stewart’s Shops, Skip’s Market, and then in the cafeteria at the Sherburne-Earlville High School until her retirement. She loved gardening, canning and freezing vegetables. She had also been a league bowler for several years. Above all, her family was her greatest joy and the times spent with them were most precious to her.
While residing in New Jersey, Dixie was a member of the Oldwick Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was active in the Oldwick United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Nolen; her children, Brenda and Peter Lathrop of Sherburne; Penny and Michael Clark of Pitcher; and Nolan Morse, Jr. of Smyrna; grandchildren, Heather and Jeremy Young of Ellenburg Depot, NY; John Lathrop of Sherburne; Philip Clark of Pitcher; Kelli Clark and her fiance’, Lucek Peck of Pitcher; and Katelynn Clark of Pitcher; great-grandson, Cody Young; sister, Donna Alpaugh of Watsontown, PA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Jr. and Barbara Alpaugh of Watsontown, PA; Harry and Rossi Alpaugh of Manville, NJ; Daniel and Deborah Alpaugh of Danville, PA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, David Alpaugh.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 10, 2016 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon until 2pm prior to the service.
