NORWICH – Donald Vincent Tansey, 83, of Moriah, passed away on Sept. 30, 2009 at Elizebethtown Community Hospital, Elizabethtown, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 28, 1926 in Norwich to John and Lena Nicholson Tansey. Don attended Norwich school and graduaded in 1944. In November 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, obtained the rank of S/SGT and was discharged in 1946.
Don was employed at Sheffield at Woods corners in 1946 until his retirement in 1988, when he and his life long companion, Kathleen Sprague moved to Moriah.
Don is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Frank and Cathy Rivenburgh of Hudson; grandsons, Matthew of Tivioli, Cody and TJ of Hudson, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Edward and William and sister Dorothy and life companion Kathleen Sprague.
Don was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, baseball (especially The Yankees), playing cards, and upon retirement enjoyed gardening, and canning his crop. He enjoyed the great outdoors and bird watching.
Those who wish to remember Don need only to take a walk outdoors, go fishing watch a baseball game or hang a bird feeder.
Arrangements were provided by Hartland Funeral Home, Port Henry.
At Donald’s request no formal services or calling hours. Interment will be in Moriah Cemetery,with a private family tribute.
