Joseph John Archie


Mr. Joseph John Archie, 91, of Norwich died peacefully on December 27, 2016 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital (RHCF).
Mr. Archie was born on April 29, 1925, in White Plains, N.Y., the son of the late John S. and Rose (DiNicola) Arcidiacono. Mr. Archie was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Mary Goodspeed Archie, and his sisters Kathryn Grummer, Jean Boody, Patricia Taylor; and one brother, John L. Archie.
He was a graduate of White Plains High School in White Plains, N.Y. and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Archie served in the U.S. Army with the 103rd Infantry Division from 1943-1945.
He was employed by Scholastic Book Club in New York City, Parents Magazine in New York City, and Reader's Digest in Pleasantville, New York. Mr. Archie also started his own children's book club, and later a mail-order business, The Orchid of the Month Club.
He is survived by his children, twin daughters Patricia (Tom) Gainey of Rock Hill, SC; Barbara Archie of Norwich, N.Y.; Pamela Archie (Dr. Mark Vogel) of Norwich, N.Y. and son Mark J. Archie (Paula) of Greenwich, CT; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are with Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, N.Y. The family will honor Mr. Archie's memory with a private service to be held at a later date.
Family members are eternally grateful for the wonderful care afforded to him at the Residential Health Care Facility at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, N.Y. and Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the RHCF or Hospice of Chenango County.
