NORWICH – John J. Ferry Jr., 75, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at his home.
Born in Norwich on July 6, 1934, John was the son of John J. and Rose (Loftus) Ferry. Following graduation from Norwich High School, John attended Niagara University where he majored in business. As a long-time employee of Sheffield Chemical and its successor companies, John retired in 1997. He was a life member of Christy Rock Post #2782 of the VFW and he was an “Early Bird” member of American Legion Post #189, both in Norwich.
John is survived by his cousins and their spouses: Margot (Paul) Adams of Chenango Forks, James (Barbara) Ferry of Austin, Texas, Mary Jane (Jim) Smith of Norwich, Edward (Cindy) Carey of Utica and Jim Sheldon of Norwich. John also leaves behind a very dear and special long time friend, Genevieve “Ginger” Fisher of Earlville.
John was an avid fan of Notre Dame, of the Syracuse Orange and of the NY Mets. He loved fresh corn in season and mac & cheese from the Two Sisters Cafe. John was a man of few wants who was forever kind and generous with family and friends (of which he had many). He was known as a person who never spoke ill of anyone. John’s life was simple but he was content with its simplicity. John’s door was always open because he preferred to give rather than receive.
May the teams you root for always win and may all your horses lead by many lengths. We will miss you, “Good Old Cousin John!”
A Mass of Resurrection for John will be held at noon on Thursday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Marian Chapel of St. Paul’s on Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon. Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
John’s family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Christy Rock Post #2782 VFW, 61-63 East Main St., Norwich NY 13815 or to the American Legion Post #189, 20 Sheldon St., Norwich NY 13815.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
