NORTH BROOKFIELD – Laurena Alta Murray Gridley, 94, of Barnes Rd., passed away, Saturday April 22, 2017 at the Martin-Luther Home, Clinton. She was born in Livingstonville, NY on May 26, 1922 a daughter of the late John L. and Alta Monroe Murray and graduated from S. Otselic High School in 1941. On January 1, 1944 in Norwich she was united in marriage to Gaylord G. Gridley. He predeceased her August 28, 1984. Laurena’s joy was caring for her family. She also enjoyed crocheting, crafts and gardening. She had a special place in her heart for animals.
Surviving are her companion, Nelson “Dave” Hutchings; her children, daughter Sandra (Gridley) and Peter McCarthy of Norwich; daughter Robin (Gridley) Eastman and Dan Weaver of Waterville; son Pete and Lorrie Gridley of Madison; son Gaylord and Lori Gridley of Waterville, a sister, Arelta Miller of Norwich; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and her very special friend, Mike Dailey.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Rood and three brothers, John, Jr., LeRoy and Lawrence Murray and an infant brother Jack.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 29, 2017 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel), 210 E. Main St., Waterville. Friends are invited and may call from 11am to 1pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the Waterville Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in her memory to a local humane society.
Laurena’s family wishes to thank the staff of the Martin Luther Home for their compassionate care.
