MICHAEL PETER NUGNES
SHERBURNE – Michael Peter Nugnes, 62, of West State St., passed away Tuesday May 9, 2017 at his home.
He was born June 11, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY a son of Peter and Marie Fornito Nugnes. He received his early education at St. Margaret’s School in Middle Village, Queens and was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School in Jamaica, NY. Michael married Lillian M. Freeley on October 27, 1979 at St. Thomas Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Woodhaven, NY. Michael’s career was in elevator repair and had worked at various companies before starting his own business, Interior Systems. Later he became an elevator inspector. He was a member of St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. He enjoyed traveling as well as cooking, was an avid NY Yankee’s fan and enjoyed watching hockey. Above all, Michael was a very kind and gentle man.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian of Sherburne; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Barbara Nugnes of Miller Place, LI; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemarie and Jay Mansdorf of Mineola; sisters-in-law, Diane Monigan of Ohio and Donna and Ronald Horman of Sherburne; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins including several special cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1pm Monday May 15, 2017 from St Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne, NY.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY on Monday from 11:30am to 12:30 pm.
Interment will be private in the Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, NY.
