JON PHILIP ‘PHIL’ BENNETT
WATERVILLE – Jon Philip “Phil” Bennett, 73, of Peck Road, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2017.
He was born October 25, 1943, a son of the late Donald and Thelma (Corbin) Bennett. Phil graduated from Waterville High School and worked on the family dairy farm. He owned and operated D&D Oil in Clinton until 2009 when he sold the business and continued working for the new owner. He retired from Mohawk Limited. Phil was married to Valerie Robischon, with whom he had his son David and daughter Debbie. He was later married to Barbara Marsh.
Phil was a former race car driver, winning the Brewerton Speedway Track Championship in 1969. He was an official for many years at local speedways and the promoter of the Brookfield Speedway from 1977-1980. He was a Mason with Alliance Lodge #1097 and member of the Highway Associations in Oneida, Lewis, Chenango and Herkimer Counties. Phil was also a past member of the Waterville Fire Department and a police officer in Waterville.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Colleen Bennett of Sherrill; his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Joseph Butler of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Michael Bennett and his fiancée Brittany Sprague, Austin Butler, Andrew Bennett and Alison Frantz and her husband Caleb; three great-grandchildren, Elijah and Logan Frantz and Charles Bennett; his brother Edward Bennett of Oriskany Falls; and many nieces and nephews, including Eddie Bennett and his wife Tracey of Brookfield whom he was very close to.
Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, May 15, 2017 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Paris Hill. All are invited to call Sunday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
