GERTRUDE A. LATHROP
SHERBURNE – Gertrude A. Lathrop, 93, of Chapel St., passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at her home.
She was born April 13, 1924 in North Norwich, a daughter of Will and Fay I. Silvernail Pike. She received her early education in North Norwich and was a graduate of Sherburne High School. On March 12, 1955, Gertrude married Charles Eugene “Gene” Lathrop in Reno, NV. Together they owned and operated Westover Farm in Sherburne until retiring. Gene predeceased her on January 31, 2011. Above all, Gertrude’s priority was caring for her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Gertrude was a member of the United Church of Christ in Sherburne. She was a lifetime member of the New England Milking Shorthorn Assoc.; an 80-year member of the NYS Holstein Assoc; a long-time member of the Chenango County Grange; and served on the Board of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA). She was also a member of the Chenango Water Exercise Group in Hamilton.
Surviving are her children, Paul Lathrop of Cobleskill; Barry and Paula Lathrop of Sherburne; Dale and Wendy Lathrop of Northboro, MA; Theresa Lathrop of Smyrna, GA; Peter and Brenda Lathrop of Sherburne; Rich and Sue Lathrop of Earlville; Betsy and Don Campbell of Sherburne; a niece, Pat (Clint) Smith of Mexico, NY; a nephew, Ron (Shirley) Pike of Norwich; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Pike and a sister-in-law, Florence Pike.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Monday, May 15, 2017 from the United Church of Christ in Sherburne followed by interment in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Monday from 11AM to 1PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the United Church of Christ, PO Box 517, Sherburne, NY 13460; the Agricultural Science Club at Sherburne-Earlville Central School, 15 School St., Sherburne, NY 13460; or the Chenango Water Exercise Group, PO Box 284, Hamilton, NY 13346.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
