William A. Houck, 76, passed away on June 20, 2017 at the NYS Veteran’s Home in Oxford. He was born in Laflin, PA to the late Burns and Thelma Houck. He grew up in Walton, NY where he went to school and later served his country in the US Army from 1966-1968. After leaving the military, William spent many years in Michigan working for General Motors as a union steward. After living in Michigan, he moved to Port Jervis, NY and later to Norwich. He was a member of American Legion Post 876 in Sherburne and was very proud of his service in Vietnam. William is survived by his dear friend, companion and caregiver Bettylou Clune, of Norwich; family members, Marjorie Houck, Beatrice Houck, Jacquelyn Rae Houck, Jerry Ward, and Lawrence Ward, all of Port Jervis; Irma Humby, of Texas; Charlotte DeGroat, of Sparrowbush, NY; Jack Houck, of Cuddebackville, NY; eight grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Houck. A funeral service for William will take place at 4:00 pm on Monday, June 26, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with Rev. Jeremy Stopford officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
