MILTON D. BENEDICT
Milton D. Benedict, 76, of Sherburne passed away Saturday morning, July 29, 2017, at the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown following a brief illness with his family by his side.
Milt was born on May 2, 1941 in Columbus the son of Harold and Ellouise (Barber) Benedict. He lived in Sherburne for most of his life and spent a period of time in Clinton as a young boy. He left school early to help on the family farm. Over the years Milt has worked for Sherburne Rendering, Claude Early Construction, The Town of Sherburne Highway Dept., owned and operated his own excavating business and served as Town of Sherburne Code Enforcement. Most recently he had worked with his wife Betty in the operation of Benedict’s Liquor Store formerly Shaheen’s Liquor Store. Without question, Milt was an outdoor guy. He enjoyed the country and has made his home on the Granville Hill Road for many years. Milt enjoyed watching and feeding the wildlife on his property especially the little fox. He found enjoyment and relaxation in riding his 4-wheel
Milt was a 35 year member of the Moose Club having belonged to the Norwich Club and in recent years the Rome Moose Club. He was also a member of the Son of American Legion of the Sherburne Post # 876 and was an avid shuffleboard player.
On May 5, 1962 in Sherburne he married Betty Marango who survives. Besides his wife Betty, Milt is survived by his children; Milton “Pete” Benedict and fiancée Theresa Crawford of Munnsville, Deborah Benedict of Sherburne, Randall (Diane) Benedict of Rotterdam, his grandchildren Brandon Vidler, Beth Benedict, Sarah Benedict, Megan Benedict and Lexi Benedict. Also surviving are his sisters Arlene Bolmer of Old Forge and Alberta (Guerry) Howard of Horseheads. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Milt was predeceased by his brothers Allen and Douglas Benedict.
A funeral service for Milt will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Elizabeth Gillette will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12-2pm.
