MARY ANN LAMPHERE
Mary Ann Lamphere, 76, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 8, 2017, at the Wilson Regional Medical Center of Johnson City.
Mary was born on March 12, 1941 in Morris, the daughter of Nelson and Ruth (Sickler) Shaw. She grew up in Morris where she attended the local school and eventually moved with her family to Smyrna. In 1969 Mary moved to Norwich where she has since made her home. While living in Norwich she had worked for the Howard Johnson’s Hotel. In her work she was always very particular in keeping things neat, tidy and clean and was referred to as the “Cat’s Meow”.
Mary without question was a very strong, independent and opinionated lady who had a heart of gold. She could be seen daily, with her walker, making her rounds downtown. The main lobby of NBT was just one of her many stops where she quickly became a familiar face. She enjoyed a cup of coffee, read the newspaper and would have many conversations with local people. Mary also enjoyed stopping to chit chat with the local “hot dog lady”. Her spunk, determination and good nature is what endured her thru the years. She was a long time and faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church where she participated in many of the church functions. Mary always enjoyed watching the birds in her daily travels especially the cardinals.
Mary is survived by her children Edward Lamphere and Rodney (Cheryl ) Lamphere all of Norwich, her sister Debra (Tom) Brayton of Frankfort, NY, her 10 grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jacob, Zoe, Maxwell, Stephanie, Gillian, Megan, Zachary, Allison and Nathan. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Crystal Lamphere of Norwich, many nieces, nephews and cousins, a very good friend Sally Angle and former daughter-in-law Elizabeth Lamphere. She was predeceased by her son Adelbert, her baby sister Alice and her brothers Nelson and John.
A funeral service for MaryAnn will be held on Wednesday, August 16, at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Hillington Cemetery of Morris. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 11-1pm.
Please consider memorial contributions to Mary’s Church, the Bible Baptist Church, Birdsall St., Norwich, NY 13815.
