Robert (Bob) Henry McDonald, Sr., 74, of South Plymouth/South Otselic, NY passed away unexpectedly on July 25, 2017. Bob was born on September 18, 1942 in Wheeling, W.VA to Alan McDonald and Marion (Fox) McDonald Brandt. He grew up in Wheeling and attended school there. He later moved to Massachusetts where he owned and operated a gas station, worked at Colonial Press and Oxford Heavy Duty Equipment as a mechanic. In 1992, Bob moved to South Otselic, NY where he worked at Gladding Corporation as a foreman until his retirement. After retiring, he took care of his companion of 20 years, Patricia Gonyea until her passing in 2006. Bob was very talented with his hands, able to repair anything. There was no job, big or small, he couldn’t conquer. He could always be found fixing vehicles, doing carpentry work, cutting firewood or helping out friends and family. Bob is survived by his sons, Donald McDonald, and Kelly McDonald; his daughter, Colleen McDonald, all of Clinton, MA; his stepsons, Michael and Kendra McGraw, of Sherburne; and Brian Gonyea, of MA; his stepdaughters, Sherry and George Orne; and Earlene and Stephan Witkowski, of MA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special friends, Stephan (Red) Witkowski, of MA; Howard and Thelma Brazee, Morey and Kathy Hackett, and Rick and Jill Collins, all of South Otselic. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his companion, Patricia Gonyea; his brother, Donald McDonald; his sister, Harriett Gerry; his sons, Robert Jr. and Patrick McDonald; his two step sons Earl and Randall Gonyea; his special friend, Gale DeLee; and his canine companions, Sheba and Bubba. A memorial service for Bob will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 1st, at First Baptist Church, 9 W. Main St. Earlville, with Pastor Jeremy Stopford officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich.
