Robert Maynard, 93, formerly of Smyrna, NY passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his home in Gloversville, NY.
He was born June 19, 1924 in Smyrna, NY a son of William J. and Ethel Gould Maynard and was a graduate of Sherburne High School in 1942. On March 22, 1952, Robert married Iris L. Brown in London, England and they made their home in Smyrna where they had a poultry farm until 1978. From 1979 until 1988 Robert was a part of a construction crew building churches with the U.S. Continental Baptist Mission. In his later years Robert invested time with family, church projects and his wood shop.
Robert was a member of the West Smyrna Baptist Church and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church after moving to Gloversville. In addition to running a successful business he served as Councilman on the Smyrna Town Board, Deacon at West Smyrna Baptist Church, Agway Committeeman and was active for many years in the Chenango County Cooperative Extension
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Iris; two sons, John F. and Linda Maynard of Amsterdam, NY; Robert M. and Donna Maynard of Camillus, NY; two daughters, Catherine E. Decker of Aurora, CO; Iris L. Maynard of Mohrsville, PA; a sister, Catherine Cameron of Chapel Hill, NC; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Jean Maynard and Mary Funk; and brothers, William, Frank, C. Edgar and David Maynard.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, followed by interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00-2:30pm.
