After a short illness, Edward Beers died at home, as he lived, with dignity and honor on November 4, 2017 with his loving and devoted family by his side and a few hours after the Yale Bulldogs football team clinched first place in the Ivy League.
Ed was born in Norwich, NY, on March 24, 1934, the only child of Marvin and Philamen Salladin Beers and lived his early life in Chenango County. He graduated from Norwich High School and Yale University in 1956 where he participated in football and track. He recently celebrated a 60th alumni tribute for the Yale Bulldogs Football Team. After graduating from Yale, Ed was drafted into the Army and was stationed at the Army Chemical Center at Edgewood, Maryland and served as an Industrial Mobilization Planner. He was discharged in February 1959.
Upon returning from the Army, Ed was employed by AT&T as a plant engineer and marketing engineer. He joined IBM as a systems engineer in 1962. In 1966 he began his career at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He was the Director of Systems until 1988 and retired as Assistant Vice President for Information Systems. After his retirement he was employed part time by Ackner Fuels and Jackson and Hewitt. Ed was also the owner and operator of the Pinewoods House Bed & Breakfast which hosted many Emma Willard School and RPI professors and parents, many of whom became lasting friends.
Ed was a lifelong American Red Cross blood donor and a local Yale alumni recruiter and interviewer.
Ed is survived by his wife of 37 years Jo Ann Beers. He is also survived by his beloved sons Edward R. Beers, Jr., his wife Donna and their sons, Toby and Doug; and Andrew Beers and his wife Beth Meer and his grandchildren August Beers and Althea Meer. Ed is also survived by his beloved stepchildren and their families -- Sean and Lucy Crotty, Seamus and Patty Crotty, Ann Crotty and Peter Deering and Erin Crotty and Jay Millington and their children, Caelan Crotty Wheeler (her husband Will and daughter Olivia), Ryan, Molly and Annie Crotty; Casey, Sully and Conor Crotty; Cullen Vumbaco, Hannah and Sarah Bower; and Zachary Millington. Ed is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Edna G. Beers.
Ed will be remembered as an avid fisherman and a dedicated supporter of his children and grandchildren’s sporting endeavors. His keen intellect was recognized by all who knew him and he was called upon many times to give his guidance and advice. Ed will be greatly remembered and missed dearly and will live on in the hearts of his beloved and devoted family and friends.

According to Ed’s wishes, services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial reception celebrating Ed’s remarkable life at The Country Club of Troy on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM.
