William A. Bigford


William A. Bigford, 99, of East Main St., passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
He was born March 2, 1918 in North Branch, MI, a son of Ira and Myrtle Abel Bigford and received his education in Michigan schools. He was the co-owner of Bigford Brothers in Earlville until retiring in 2001. On November 30, 1939, William married Phyllis A. Wilson in Earlville. She predeceased him on May 11, 2010. William enjoyed roller skating and won the Michigan Speed Skating Championship in 1937. In Earlville, he was the skate cop at the local rink. He also enjoyed bowling at Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville, was a member of the Earlville Bowling Association and the Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his children, Sandra and Chet Holbrook of Earlville; Carl and Ophelia Bigford of Earlinger, KY; Raymon Bigford of Earlville; daughter-in-law, Mary Bigford of Earlville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice James of Poolville; Opal and Art Vanas of Holly, MI; Joanne Silverman of AZ; Mary and Dave Greeve of Thurmont, MD; sisters-in-law, Vaune Bigford of Earlville; Janice Brown of NC; Carole Keys of Morrisville and Nancy Wilde of FL; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Bigford; sisters, Shirley Morgan and Marguerite Bigford; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ralph Bigford, Victor and Bert Bigford, Beverly Brettoff and Patricia Ryberg; and three brothers-in-law, Bob Silverman, Walter James and Gene Wilson;
Graveside services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the Earlville Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
William’s family wishes to thank the staff of Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, the Crouse Community Center, the Sherburne and Earlville Fire Departments and S.O.M.A.C. for the kind and compassionate care given to him.
