NORWICH – Douglas M. Genung, 58, of Norwich passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 2, 2009 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1951 in Norwich a son of George and Mary (Swertfager) Genung Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Genung of Oxford; his sons, Rhett Genung of Sherburne, Andrew Genung and Erica Lilly of Rochester, and Joseph Genung of Walkill; his sister-in-law, Carol Ann Genung of Norwich; his uncles, Leland Swertfager of Norwich and Edward Swertfager of Bakersfield, Calif.; his nieces and nephews, Greg Genung of Pensacola, Fla., Tobin Genung of Atlanta, Ga., Amber Genung of Alexandria, Va., Carlee Genung and Krysty Genung both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and his special pet Lady Dionne. Several cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his brother George “Dick” Genung Jr.
Doug was a graduate of Oxford Academy and Central School and Jamestown Community College. He was employed by Chenango Memorial Hospital and most recently by Procter and Gamble as an environmental supervisor. A great outdoorsman he especially enjoyed trapping and being a conservationist. He was a good artist. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his green thumb. He also loved singing karaoke at many competitions in the area.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. James Horton, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich officiating.
