Christopher Leigh Joy, 49, of Norwich, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, November 14th from acute pneumonia. The youngest boy in a family of eleven, he was predeceased by his father Harold and mother Carol; as well as his brother Kerry and sister Kimberle.
An accomplished athlete in high school, he excelled in football as quarterback, most valuable player in baseball, and undefeated Clyde Cole wrestler: bringing home numerous accolades, along with many medals and trophies. Little known for his artistic abilities, he was fond of sculpting in clay; which started when he was just a boy dabbling in Play Doh. Chris carried his passion into adulthood. Having only one child, his son Bryant Joy of Cazenovia, he was also blessed by being a grandfather to Caleb, the light of his life.
He is survived by his sister Tammie Joy of Wichita, Kansas; Alyson Joy of Newtonville, Massachusetts; Brian and Rosie Wilbur Joy of Norwich; Patrick Joy of Norwich; Kevin and Cher Westover Joy of Solebury, and Newtown, Pennsylvania, respectively; Cherie Babcock Joy of Kirkville. He also has a maternal aunt, a paternal aunt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The life of the party, and friend to all, Christopher will be sorely missed. A lifelong animal lover, contributions to the A.S.P.C.A. would be in order. A celebration of life service will be held sometime in the spring. Details to be released at a future date.
