James E. Doughty


James E. Doughty, 93 of Greene passed away on January 13, 2018 at the NYS Veterans Home, Oxford. He was born on January 31, 1924 in Jeffersonville, NY a son of the late Frank and Caroline (Hobart) Doughty. He was predeceased by a daughter Susan (Brown) Lewis. On May 16, 1964 he married Beverly Lashway Brown, who survives.
Besides his devoted and loving wife, Beverly, he is survived by his children; Charles and Sharon Brown of Greene, Arthur and Darlene Brown of Burlington, NC, Joanne (Brown) and Steve Kasmarcik of Windsor, Donald and Linda Brown of Greene, William and Lisa Doughty of North Norwich and John Doughty of Jamesville and son in law, John Lewis; his grandchildren, Steven, Martin, Michael and Heather Lewis, Andrew Brown, Mariellen VanDyke Brown and husband William VanDyke, Josh and Cary Ellen Brown, Daniel and Becky Brown, Lauren (Brown) and Joseph Young, Jenelle Kresge and fiancé Brandon Krupka, Phil (Aaron) and Erin Kresge, Karalee, Kaeleb and Kristopher Kasmarcik and Kristopher’s fiancé Amber Sabo, Lindsey Brown, Megan Brown, Jennifer Eltz, Alicia Eltz, Claudia Doughty, Anna Doughty and Lauren Warford; and his great grandchildren, William, Maisey, Connor, Cormac, Aiden, Hannah, Norah, Giannah, Gabriellah, Jonah, Gemma, Bella, Caia, and Gabe.
Jim was a kind and giving man, who loved music and a good joke, and he took special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Throughout his life, he served his family, his community and his country. He served in the US Army during World War II during the Philippine Liberation and in Japan, and served as Provost Sergeant of a prison camp in Manila at the end of the war. He was called up and also served in the Korean War. Jim managed a Briggs Lumber Yard in Oxford and in Greene. His success at managing led him to mentor several Briggs managers over his career. For 50 years he was an active volunteer fire fighter, serving the Liberty and Greene NY communities.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Greene. Burial will be in the spring at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kennedy Funeral Home, 21 N. Chenango St., Greene on Thursday, January 18 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Greene Fire Department or the Greene Emergency Squad.
